In Holy Baptism the triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children, and makes us members of the body of Christ, the church. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship page 225)

To the question, “What is baptism?”, the Small Catechisms says: ‘Baptism is not simply plain water.  Instead, it is water used according to God’s command and connected with God’s Word.

Jesus said, as he prepared to leave his friends:  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”  (Matthew 28:19)

Baptism is a joyous invitation by a good and gracious God, to be in relationship with God and all people.  In our baptisms we say YES  to God’s promises:
that God will never leave us or forsake us
we are named, claimed, and loved by God
nothing we do (or don’t do) will ever separate us from God’s love
we are equipped to be a light to the world, to speak and work for healing and justice in
world.

We baptize all who come seeking this once performed, but forever important Sacrament, welcoming babies through adults.

We nurture the faith through instruction, support, prayer, and the expectation that  the baptized will  participate fully in the life of this congregation.
